India still continues to build additional 65GW coal plants, while the real solution is to massively expand rooftop solar installations and shut down existing power plants. Bank loans worth tens of thousands of crores for the new 65GW Coal power plants under construction in India
are already under water. Right now, commercial rooftop
solar costs one third of the cost coal power plants. India should
immediately stop and scrap all new coal power plants under construction. Building new coal power plants is like throwing good money after bad obsolete technology. Also, coal power plants consume lot of water, which is in scarce supplies today, which is better used for agriculture and cities. Rooftop solar can be installed in days and cost less than one third of new coal power plants and required no maintenance.
